Arundel Castle town, Cathedral Town and the town with one Church that has two denominations
That's the headlines but it doesn’t scratch the surface of the history, architecture, businesses and playgrounds, I call home. My name is Martin and I am a postman in the town. I wasn’t born there in 1958, I was bornin the town not far away called Rustington. The maternity wing there was where most of my generation were born. If I had been born in the borough of Arundel, I would be a Mullet, (the fish not the haircut) the grey mullet is caught in the river and is a colloquialism given to people born here. I don’t profess to being a historian or expert but I do love my town. So with my knowledge, humour, friends and tourism qualification, decided to share, when I could, with the visitors and locals alike. From a Tour to a Presentation and now a book. My partner Karen and myself hope you enjoy our book and Arundel will see you soon.
So, Arundel, why so special, it’s hard to say precisely, ambling along Tarrant Street, named after the river (not the Arun?) the town array of different architectural styles, the coffee shops and pubs, the lovely independent shops. The events across the year from Corpus Christie, Farmers Markets to Festival and Christmas, the walks, the river bank, the lake, the park, so much to see and do at a leisurely pace.
Arundel has had a Castle since 1067 it is said although there has been some kind of fortress there for much longer. The history of the Castle and the Dukes is baffling, and so I suggest a visit to get acquainted with both. Outside the Castle are the delights of the town for you to explore, enjoy the hospitality, the feel of the small arcades, the galleries and antique shops. Explore the variety of cafes and restaurants, check out the take home gift shops, sit beside the river, whatever you choose, just love the town as we do.
A Must Do Well worth it and Great to experience, we went on the walking tour with Martin during a weekend stay in Arundel. It was the highlight of our stay. Martin was Great, he knows so much about the town and really enthusiastic about the local history, we learned so much and loved every minute of it. We plan to go again it was so good. We even went into town the next day and bought Martin's book to learn more about Arundel. A Must Do trip!

2012 saw the launch of Arundel's Walking Tours has gone from strength to strength, adapting its services for the benefit of his guests and offering a variety of ways to discover the history of Arundel. His primary service is to give his visitors a 60 to 75 minute tour, every day at 2pm, of this stunning ancient inland port, with a introduction to all the history, geography and interesting parts of Arundel, so often missed by the day tripper.•60 to 75 minutes out of the day, We believe, will leave you the rest of the day to enjoy what the town has to offer, or to re-visit somewhere seen during the tour. Whatever you decide I hope that you'll leave Arundel with the knowledge you have really seen the town, learnt of its history, and enjoyed the wonderful hospitality.
Arundel Historic Tours is a Unique, Official Walk around Arundel. Led by Martin, a Postman who is lifelong Arundel. His tour includes pictures from the past and present, his narration includes tales of Romans, Saxons, Normans, Victoriana up to anecdotal stories of growing up there. His view of the town, through the eyes and passion of a local is humorous, entertaining and educational. Your questions will be answered, from Norfolk in Sussex, Cathedral and bi-denomination church, from bricked-up windows to fire marks. Architecture, history, the people and changes will all be discussed, leading you to leave knowing a whole lot more about this beautiful town.
